Taylor Swift surprised everyone with the announcement of release of Evermore, the sister album to folklore which came out earlier this year. It only made sense to make the holiday season better and listen to it and of course everyone is loving it. With Folkore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions still on people’s mind, evermore was just a treat.
If you liked the album and want to keep the feeling going on, here’s a list of 15 books which reminded me of the songs.
How to Fail at Flirting by Denise Williams
Professor Naya Turner has dedicated the past few years of her life to her job but her friends and her, all agree that its time for a change. But after a long time an abusive relationship, Naya finds it a little difficult to open up to people. And then she meets Jake who makes her laugh and makes her feel more like herself everyday. Its a fitting story to the first song in the album, willow.
2. champagne problems
The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory
The song is supposed to be about a rejected proposal and what better book for it than The Proposal. While the book might not go with somber theme of the song, its about Nikole, who knows how to make her own happily ever after and she certainly does not need an actor who makes a public proposal in 45,000 people for it.
3. gold rush
A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
gold rush is another one of the songs which seems to touch upon not being right for someone. And A Walk to Remember is a perfect match. Nobody would have imagined Landon with Jamie, least of all, Landon and Jamie but when they get together, its a summer Landon will remember forever.
4. tis the damn season
Revenge Cake by Skyler Mason
There is a lot of angst in this song and there couldn’t be a better story to go with it than the new release, Revenge Cake. Logan and Leilani have a few months of a fiery relationship but when Leilani begins to fall back into difficult times, Logan decided to take a step back. And then they never saw each other again?
5. tolerate it
Luster by Raven Leilani
I couldn’t think of a better book which embodies the feeling of this song than Raven Leilani’s debut, Luster. Edie, a young black woman finds herself in an affair with the family of an older man she’s involved with. But the book is more about Edie’s desire to find herself and her love for life.

6. no body, no crime
Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones
Tayari Jones shows her literary skills as she talks about love, attention and what it means to be a woman in this book about a man who leads a double life. Two families, two daughters, two lives. And only one of them knows about it.
The Pisces by Melissa Broder
Probably the most unconventional book in this list, The Pisces takes post-breakup melancholy to another level. Lucy goes to live with her sister in Los Angeles after her breakup but nothing brings her peace. Until she meets a swimmer and there on its twist after twist.
The Chicken Sisters by KJ Dell’Antonia
dorothea might or might not be a Sapphic song but it certainly talks about someone who’s moved on to do ‘bigger’ things and that’s the story of the sisters, Amanda and Mae. Mae returns home to Merinac in Kansas to help her mother win a show called Food Wars after her flop TV gigs and it doesn’t sit well with Amanda.
9. coney island
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami
Full of love, life, loss and music, Norwegian Wood is Murakami’s best and easiest read. Toru and Naoko’s passion is made difficult by the loss of their mutual friend and both of them try to find their way around it in their own way. Naoko closes in on herself and Toru finds comfort with others.
This is a Love Story by Jessica Thompson
Sometimes love is not as easy as boy meets girl and they live happily ever after and sometimes you aren’t with the right person even if it felt like it at the time. This is a Love Story is one such novel with Sienna trying hard not to fall in love with Nick but fate has other plans.
11. cowboy like me
Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
A non-strings attached arrangement finds itself turned upside down when Tate and Miles end up breaking rules they had set up for its seamless execution. There was something about the song which reminded me of this book by the romance queen, Colleen Hoover.
12. long story short
The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisenberg
Something about this song reminded me feeling like you are in the wrong place and having to prove yourself. And the first book which came to my mind was The Devil Wears Prada. Amanda lands a job which millions would kill for – assistant to Miranda Priestly, a fashion editor but soon finds out that it might not be the place for her.
One Day in December by Josie Silver
Laurie has her issues with love at first sight broken when she sees a man on a bus stand who she believes to be the man for her. Sometime later they meet at a Christmas party through their friend Sarah. But itsnot as simple as that because ten years pass as opportunities are missed and hearts are broken.
99 days by Katie Cotugno
Molly Barlow left town to finish high school somewhere else but now she has to return home for the summer holidays before going off to college. But the mistakes she made before are waiting for her again along with two brothers, Patrick and Gabe.
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
I couldn’t think of a better book to go with this song than Mitch Albom’s non fiction book in which he fondly remembers his mentor, Professor Morrie Schwartz. Some people come into our lives and teach is so much about everything and both the song and the book talk about that feeling.
